Mangala Watched By Gunners
Arsenal are being linked with Stuttgart forward Orel Mangala.
The 21-year-old Belgium Under-21 international is valued at between €20 million and €30 million by the Bundesliga side. Belgian newspaper HLN claims the Gunners are keeping tabs on Mangala ahead of a possible move.
Mangala joined Stuttgart for just €1.8 million from Anderlecht in his homeland in 2017. He made 20 first-team appearances in his first season at the club but was then loaned out to Hamburg in the Bundesliga’s second division for the whole of last season.
However, he is back in the second tier this campaign after Stuttgart were themselves relegated at the end of last season. So far he has made 11 first-team appearances in the league this season although four of those have come off the bench.
“If I had the money I would buy myself,” Mangala insisted to HLN. Whether Arsenal would be willing to pay as much as £26 million for a player who cannot nail down a regular spot in a second division side remains to be seen.
Arsenal are being linked once again with another Belgian player, Napoli striker Dries Mertens. The Serie A side could be heading for a clear-out following a disappointing start to the season and Mertens is one of those who could go.
The 32-year-old has scored 34 goals in 73 appearances over the past two seasons but has found the net on just four occasions in 11 league matches so far this campaign.
Napoli lie in seventh place in Serie A – already five points off a Champions League place.
