Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic is inching away from the club with a move in January now on the cards.

The 31-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford with both Fred and Scott McTominay more likely to be selected by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Matic has made just two Premier League starts for the Red Devils with one appearance off the substitutes’ bench.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Serie A sides AC Milan and Inter Milan are both interested in a January move for the Serb.

Matic is out of contract at Old Trafford this summer although United have an option to extend that for a further year. They may well exercise that option in a bid to get a bigger transfer fee out of any potential suitors. Even so, they may still demand a fee of around £10 million.

The defensive midfielder joined Manchester United in a £40 million transfer from Chelsea in the summer of 2017 when he teamed up once again with Jose Mourinho. But he has been largely overlooked by Solskjaer since he succeeded Mourinho almost a year ago.
