Ibrahimovic Linked With Serie A Return
Manchester United could be tempted to re-sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the January transfer window. That’s according to reports from Italy over the weekend. But a return to Old Trafford isn’t a realistic prospect.
The Swede is formally out of contract with MLS side LA Galaxy at the end of next month when he becomes a free agent.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Ibrahimovic has been contacted by Manchester United over a possible return to Old Trafford.
However, a return to the Premier League looks to be the least likely of three options for the 38-year-old.
Zlatan has been offered a new contract by Galaxy. As Football Gossip reported earlier this month the deal is worth the equivalent of €7 million a year after tax. That’s over £200,000 a week gross. United are unlikely to match that offer.
However, MLS commissioner Don Garber has told ESPN that Ibrahimovic looks set to return to one of his former clubs, AC Milan.
“Zlatan is such an interesting guy,” Garber said. “He keeps my hands and inbox full. He’s a thrill-a-minute.
“He is a 38-year-old guy who is being recruited by AC Milan, one of the top clubs in the world.”
The Swede scored 31 goals in 31 games for Galaxy this season although the Californian side fell short in the league’s play-off series only getting as far as the last eight stage.
Ibrahimovic spent two seasons at Milan. He had a season-long loan from Barcelona in 2010-11 followed by a permanent move that lasted only one season. He scored 56 goals in 85 games for the Serie A side.
Bologna and Napoli are also being linked.
