Can Also Linked
Manchester United are expected to sign Mario Mandzukic from Juventus in January. However, reports from Italy claim the Red Devils are also interested in the Serie A side’s Germany international Emre Can.
Tuttomercatoweb claims an agreement is already in place between the two clubs for Mandzukic. The Red Devils have been linked with the Croatia international for much of the season. However, they are likely to end up paying £10 million for a player who is now 33 years old and has yet to play a single minute of football for Juve this season.
Tuttomercatoweb adds that Can could also be on the move to Old Trafford. He has been omitted from Juve’s Champions League squad and is keen to explore the possibility of a move away from a club he only joined in the summer of 2018.
It adds that both Can and Mandzukic could be offered to United as part of the £90 million transfer of Paul Pogba, Juve remain interested in their former player. The France international is out injured until December and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insisted ahead of tonight’s Carabao Cup clash with Chelsea that he has options to cope with Pogba’s absence.
“Fred will probably take Paul’s position for a while now,” Solskjaer said.
“There’s no use talking about who’s not going to be here for a long, long time because he’s not going to come on the pitch and help us until he’s fit.
“Paul’s been brilliant and he is a creative midfielder that we need, but then it is up to the others to step up.”
Manchester United scouts have once again watched Brescia midfielder Sandro Tonali. The 19-year-old has been watched on a number of occasions by representatives from Old Trafford. They were present again at last week’s goalless draw at home to Fiorentina.
