Move Is Likely Admits Zorc In Interview
Manchester United transfer target Jadon Sancho won’t remain with Borussia Dortmund in the long term. That’s according to the Bundesliga side’s sporting director.
Sancho has emerged as one of the most exciting young players in Europe since he moved to the Bundesliga side from Manchester City in 2017. The 19-year-old has scored 18 goals and provided 29 assists in 64 appearances for Dortmund and has been linked with some of Europe’s top clubs – including Manchester United.
Dortmund dug in their heels and refused to allow Sancho to leave during the summer, But in an interview with German newspaper Kicker, sporting director Michael Zorc conceded that a long-term stay doesn’t look likely.
“No decision has yet been made”, said Zorc.”But you do not have to be a prophet to say that Jadon will not be here for another five years. He knows full well that he has taken a positive step at Borussia Dortmund and I doubt that would have been possible with top English clubs.
“We trust players very early and are not afraid to let them play.”
United could face competition for Sancho’s signature from Manchester City. The Premier League champions have an option under the terms of his transfer to Dortmund to match any offer received by the German side.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are being linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld.
Reports from Italy claim that United could put in a bid in January for the 30-year-old Belgium international whose contract with Spurs expires at the end of the season.
Alderweireld’s age could be a barrier to any bid. United tend to lose interest in a player once he reaches 30. However, a low fee and a short-term deal could make it worth their while.
