Manchester United have opened talks with England Under-20 international Angel Gomes over a new deal at Old Trafford.
The 19-year-old is in the final year of his current deal. He made his senior debut in Thursday night’s 1-0 victory over FC Astana in the Europa League.
According to the Manchester Evening News, United aren’t close to an agreement with Gomes. Plus his situation is being watched by Barcelona who have been tracking the forward for some time.
The MEN speculates that Gomes could emulate his close friend Jadon Sancho who has thrived since he moved abroad. Sancho joined Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City in 2017 and has established himself both as a first-team regular and as a full England international.
But United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to keep Gomes within the United senior squad for this season. This was after a loan move was blocked in the January transfer window earlier this year.
Gomes is expected to play a role in United’s Europa League group games this season as well domestic cup competitions.
