Arsenal Keeping Tabs On Hungarian Youngster
Arsenal are interested in Red Bull Salzburg midfield playmaker Dominik Szoboszlai.
The 18-year-old has been watched extensively by the Gunners in recent week and scouts from the Emirates were among the 50 that watched Salzburg’s 6-2 victory over Genk in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Most of those 50 scouts were there to watch Norwegian striker Erland Braut Haaland – who scored a hat-trick – but Arsenal were there to keep tabs on Szoboszlai who also got on the scoresheet.
It was claimed on Wednesday that Arsenal are ready to offer the Hungarian a contract at the end of this season. He is keen to gain more experience – especially in European competition – with Salzburg before moving to one of Europe’s top leagues.
“A lot of people say that my style of play is close to Sergej Milinkovic-Savic [of Lazio] and Toni Kroos [of Real Madrid],” Szoboszlai told Goal.
“It is a great thing to hear that.”
The Gunners are expected to face competition from sides in Serie A. Juventus and Inter Milan are also keen but Arsenal appear to have stolen a march by instigating preliminary discussions.
Arsenal are also interested in Haaland whose goalscoring record for Salzburg this season is a remarkable 17 goals in nine games. He also scored nine goals in an Under-20 World Cup game for Norway against Honduras this summer which resulted in a 12-0 victory for the Norwegians.
