United Were Prepared To Sell Frenchman
Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba agreed a contract with Paris Saint-Germain before transfer deadline day but the move broke down when Neymar’s transfer to Barcelona collapsed.
Pogba was linked over the summer with interest from both Juventus and Real Madrid, but according to Calciomercato in Italy PSG agreed a fee of €150 million (at current exchange rates worth £134 million) with United. The agreement between Pogba and PSG was for a contract worth €25 million a year. That’s the equivalent of £429,000 a week although Italian outlets tend to quote wage figures after tax so the real salary may be far more.
This rumour comes as a surprise especially as Manchester United appeared to have nobody lined up to replace Pogba. The Red Devils insisted all along that Pogba was going nowhere and to agree an exit on the eve of the new season would come as a surprise.
Calciomercato also claimed that Real Madrid’s offer to United for Pogba was €90 million (£80.3 million) with €15 million a year to Pogba. United demanded €160 million (£143 million).
Neymar’s move to Barcelona collapsed when the Catalan side’s winger Ousmane Dembele rejected a season-long loan move to PSG.
