Arsenal Move Rejected
Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed he once tried to sign Jadon Sancho for the Gunners when the England international was at Manchester City.
The Frenchman, who now works as a pundit for BeIn Sports, made the claim during the network’s coverage of the Euro 2020 qualifiers on Tuesday night. Sancho scored twice in England’s 5-3 victory over Kosovo at Southampton’s St Mary’s Stadium – his first international goals.
The London-born Sancho moved to Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City for £9 million in 2017 and has impressed during his time in the Bundesliga.
“I wanted to take him from Man City when he didn’t get the games,” Wenger said.
“I tried to lure him because he’s from London. I tried to get him to Arsenal.
“He’s one of the best players of his generation. He can dribble, he has the arrogance,” he added
“There’s something in there that is part of the big players. You can call it arrogance, confidence, belief; but it has to be there.”
