Contract Would Make Keeper One Of Highest-Paid Players
Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is close to signing a new contract at Old Trafford.
The Spain international is out of contract next summer and can speak to overseas clubs from 1 January about a pre-contract agreement. Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are both being linked.
But a report in The Guardian claims De Gea is close to agreeing a deal that would see him earn close to the £290,000 a week paid to his Old Trafford team-mate Paul Pogba.
There had been reports that De Gea was close to a contract worth £350,000 a week.
Costa Move Scuppered
Manchester United were keen on Juventus forward Douglas Costa this summer. However, Juve coach Maurizio Sarri blocked the move – as did his predecessor Massimiliano Allegri.
Costa was linked during the transfer window with interest from Old Trafford. But according to the agent who brought the Brazilian to Italy the deal was blocked by the Serie A side.
“I sincerely say that Allegri and Sarri have never thought of letting him go,” Giovanni Brachini told the Daily Mail.
“The interest of Manchester United was strong, a club that has always been interested in the Brazilian.
“It was not the only club but in England it was certainly the most active team on the trail of Douglas Costa.”
United were first linked with Costa as far back as 2011 when he was with Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk. He was even invited to Old Trafford that year but the deal failed to come off because of Shakhtar’s valuation.
