Rice Believes Summer Interest Came Too Soon
Manchester United transfer target Declan Rice believes he has the ability to play for a top Premier League side. However, he believes he did the right thing in deciding this summer to remain with West Ham United.
The England international was watched last season by United scouts on numerous occasions but he told FourFourTwo that he is happy where he is for now:
“Don’t get me wrong, I think I’ve got the ability to play for a club like that,” he said.
“But it’s all about the timing and I don’t think the timing is right for me at all. I’ve still got so much to learn.
“I’m loving it at West Ham, the connection between me and the supporters is special. I’ve become one of the fans’ favourites and the manager likes me. It’s the best place to play football.”
Rice is under contract with the Hammers until 2024 having signed a new deal with the east London club only last December and he
“I’ve signed a contract here for the next few years and I’m looking forward to playing this season and the season beyond, so we’ll just see where it goes.
“To be called a West Ham legend in the future, maybe, would be a real honour.”
United Trio In Juve Link
Meanwhile, three Manchester United players are being linked with Serie A giants Juventus.
Keeper David de Gea, central defender Eric Bailly and defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic are all believed to be targets next summer for Juve according to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
De Gea is out of contract at the end of the season and could leave United for nothing. Bailly was linked this summer with a move away from Old Trafford but the injury he picked up pre-season closed off that avenue.
Matic is the surprising link but he has fallen down the pecking order this season with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer preferring Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay in central midfield.
