Dias, Luis On United Radar
Manchester United are keeping tabs on two Benfica youngsters according to reports from Portugal.
United scouts regularly attend matches involving the country’s top three clubs: Benfica, Sporting Lisbon and FC Porto, and the Red Devils are constantly linked with players at one or more of those clubs. For much of this year it was Sporting midfielder Bruno Fernandes although rumours were largely originating from the Portugese press and the 24-year-old remains unsold despite talk of a switch to Real Madrid.
But the Portugese media are at it again. A Bola claims United scouts watched Benfica win 4-0 in Braga at the weekend. The report suggests the Red Devils sent representatives to run the rule over central defender Ruben Dias and defensive midfielder Florentino Luis.
Dias, 22, already has 12 international caps for Portugal while Luis, 20, has represented his country at youth level. This isn’t the first time he has been linked with United. Football Gossip reported earlier this year that United were keeping tabs on him. It is believed he has a release clause of €60 million – currently worth around £54 million – in his contract with Benfica.
United weren’t the only club to have scouts at the game. Premier League rivals Norwich City also had a representative at the game as did Lyon, Bordeaux, Atalanta, Sevilla, Villareal and Celta Vigo.
Meanwhile, full-back Matteo Darmian completed his move from Manchester United to Serie A side Parma on Monday.
The Italy international has signed a four-year deal and leaves for a fee put at between £1.5 million and £2 million.
