Manchester United News: Martial Injury Could Scupper Sanchez Loan

Scan Results Expected Today

Manchester United are awaiting the results of scans on Anthony Martial before deciding whether Alexis Sanchez’s loan move to Inter Milan can go ahead.

Martial was seen limping away from Old Trafford following Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace. He has had a scan on his thigh with the results set to come back on Tuesday.

There are fears the Frenchman could be out of action for the next month leaving the club with only one recognised striker in Marcus Rashford. That could lead to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thinking again about an exit for Sanchez.

Talks over a move to Inter Milan for the Chile international have continued over the past few days with some reports suggesting he could fly to Italy on Wednesday for a medical.

Inter won’t be required to pay Manchester United a loan fee for Sanchez and they will only be picking up around 20 percent of his £400,000-a-week basic wage. The move could be made permanent next summer for a fee of €15 million (£13.5 million).

But Martial’s injury could affect the move even though Solskjaer played down the extent of injuries to both Sanchez and to full-back Luke Shaw who also picked up an injury against Palace. Like Martial, the England international could face a month on the sidelines.

“We’ll have to wait and see,” the United boss said after the match. “Hopefully they won’t be too bad and maybe we can have them training during the week.”
