Barcelona want a loan deal for Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar with the option of a permanent transfer at the end of the season.
The Catalan side cannot afford to pay the transfer fee PSG are demanding. A figure of €100 million plus players was being talked about last week. Barca have also had a need to move players on in order to accommodate Neymar’s huge salary. The exit of Malcom and the proposed departure of Philippe Coutinho for Bayern Munich will save around €40 million a year– just about enough.
Barca are proposing a deal that would be similar to that which PSG themselves carried out two years ago when they signed Kylian Mbappe from Monaco: a season-long loan but with a guaranteed transfer for a fixed fee at the end of the season. PSG would prefer a deal along the lines already proposed: cash plus players. But the two Barcelona players they want – Ousmane Dembele and Nelson Semedo – won’t be part of the deal. Barca want the pair to remain at the Nou Camp.
Real Madrid remain in the mix for Neymar. PSG want defender Raphael Varane and forward Vincius Junior as part of any transfer to the Bernabeu. Real won’t allow Vincius to leave.
PSG coach Thomas Tuchel said at the weekend that Neymar won’t be allowed to leave until a replacement is found. Reports suggest talks have taken place with Juventus striker Paulo Dybala.
The Argentina international was a target for Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur before the Premier League transfer window closed earlier this month. However, he is only interested in joining one of three clubs: Barcelona, Real Madrid – or PSG.
