Napoli Keen On Colombian
Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has poured cold water over the possible move of James Rodriguez to Napoli.
The Colombia international is back at the Bernabeu following a two-year loan spell at Bayern Munich. The German side had an option to purchase that they could have exercised this summer but decided not to.
Since then, Rodriguez has been linked with a move to various clubs in England and Italy. The Premier League window has now closed but Italian clubs can still sign players right up until next Friday evening.
Napoli are interested. Coach Carlo Ancelotti spent a season working with Rodriguez at the Bernabeu when the Colombian arguably showed his best form for Madrid.
A poll in Spanish newspaper AS this week showed the majority of Real Madrid fans want the forward to remain at the club. Zidane – who saw fit to send Rodriguez to Bayern in 2017 – suggested he might end up staying.
“He’s fit and I’m glad he’s with us,” said the Frenchman.
Zidane was also asked about Madrid’s ongoing links with Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba. But the answer he gave was very non-committal.
“I am happy with my players and, like them, I am focused on the first league match.”
Real take on Celta Vigo this afternoon in their opening La Liga game.
