Coutinho, Rakitic Offered As Part Of Neymar Deal
Barcelona will offer midfielders Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Rakitic to Paris Saint-Germain as part of any deal for Neymar.
The news comes after a meeting in Paris between representatives of the two clubs tried to hammer out some sort of agreement.
PSG were told by Barcelona that their demands for winger Ousmane Dembele and full-back Nelson Semedo would not be entertained by the La Liga side. The Ligue 1 side’s sporting director Leonardo then put forward Rakitic’s name and that was accepted by Barca.
But there are still a number of hurdles to be passed before Neymar can conclude his Barcelona transfer. First of all Coutinho and Rakitic need to come to an agreement with PSG over wages. In Coutinho’s case that means making an offer of around £400,000 a week to match his current salary.
However, there is also the size of the transfer fee payable to make up Neymar’s economic value. Some outlets are suggesting that figure could be as high as €100 million (£93 million).
Barcelona are previously reported to have said that they will pay “not one euro” for the Brazilian and will only offer players in exchange. This latest report suggests their stance has changed somewhat.
Barca have already spent a nett £97 million on players this summer. However, arch-rivals Real Madrid are circling and could put a bid of their own to PSG and Neymar pulling on a white shirt is something Barca wish to avoid.
