Manchester United See £23.5m Bid Rejected For Olmo

United’s One Of Three Bids Rejected By Dinamo

Dani Olmo Manchester United transfer news

Manchester United saw a £23.5 million bid rejected for Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Dani Olmo before last Thursday’s transfer deadline.

The Spain Under-21 international was linked with a move away from Dinamo over the course of the summer. But the Croatian side rejected all interest while they are still involved in the Champions League qualifying campaign.

United’s bid of €28 million was the lowest of three bids received last week for Olmo. Both Everton and Bayern Munich bid higher at €28 million (£26.3 million) but they also saw their bids rejected out-of-hand by Dinamo.

“Dinamo offered a new contract, so far we haven’t given any answer to that,” his agent Andy Bara told Croatian outlet Sportske Novosti. “We need to think about that.”

The reason for Dinamo’s reticence is that it might be more effective for them to hang on to Olmo for a tilt at the Champions League group stages. The thinking is that qualification for the group stages would earn them €15 million and they have a better chance of earning that money with Olmo, their star player, even if they sell him later in the European transfer window for around €25 million.

Dinamo travel to Hungary this week for their third qualifying round second leg tie with Ferencvarosi. But they go into the game at a disadvantage having drawn the home leg 1-1.

Olmo remains a target for Bayern and Bara refused to comment on the prospect of a revised bid from the Bundesliga giants before the end of the month. United and Everton find themselves at a disadvantage with the Premier League transfer window having closed although either club could offer Dinamo a fee now and leave Olmo with the Croatian side until the January window opens.
