Sanchez To Go?
Manchester United are in talks with Roma over a season-long loan for midfielder Alexis Sanchez.
The Chile international is still being linked with a move away from Old Trafford despite United not being in a position to recruit a replacement.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has handed the club’s number 9 shirt to Anthony Martial. The Frenchman scored 10 Premier League goals in 27 games – 18 starts and nine appearances off the substitute bench – at an average of one for every 162 minutes on the pitch.
That suggests Martial could get the nod ahead of Sanchez in his starting eleven.
Solskjaer expects Sanchez to remain at the club for the season but reports claim Roma will be given the opportunity to do a deal to take the 30-year-old on loan.
However, Sanchez’s wages are expected to be a problem for the Serie A side. United will be hoping to get the whole of his £391,000-a-week basic pay off their books although it is believed that figure has been slashed by 25 percent following the side’s failure to qualify for the Champions League.
But Roma will hold out for United paying a huge part of his salary. The transfer deadline in Italy doesn’t close until 8pm local time on Friday 23 August.
Roma have a number of other targets to chase including Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz. Edin Dzeko looks set to leave for Inter Milan with Diaz, Sanchez or Inter’s Mauro Icardi all candidates to replace him.
Solskjaer has hinted at possible exits for Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian before the various European leagues’ deadlines.
“The thing is it’s not about who we don’t want here, it’s about who we want here, and you’re going to see that in the team selections and who’s going to be with us in the long run,” he said on Friday.
