Mustafi, Elneny Linked With Exits
Arsenal will listen to offers from European clubs for defender Shkodran Mustafi and midfielder Mohamed Elneny.
Although the transfer deadline has passed in the Premier League, clubs in the rest of Europe’s top leagues can still sign players. The deadline in Serie A falls on Friday 23 August – the day before the league commences. The transfer windows in much of the rest of Europe runs to 2 September.
Arsenal have strengthened their defence with the £8 million signing of David Luiz from Chelsea on Thursday. They also completed the club-record signing of Nicolas Pepe last week. Both those players are likely to be higher up the pecking order than both Mustafi or Elneny.
The Gunners offered Mustafi for sale last summer but while there has been interest from clubs in France and Germany this time around there have been no concrete bids. The 27-year-old was signed for £35 million on a five-year deal in 2016. That means his amortised value in the club’s books stands at £14 million. Even so, that appears to be a tall order for many of the clubs who have shown an interest. A loan deal looks more likely but even there Arsenal will have to pay a good portion of his wages.
Elneny has been linked with interest from Turkish side Galatasaray but there has been no agreement with either the player or the club.
