Arsenal signed Kieran Tierney from Celtic for a fee that could end up as much as £25 million. David Luiz arrived from Chelsea for £8 million while Alex Iwobi was sold to Everton for an initial £28 million rising to £34 million. Details here.

Manchester United’s sale of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan for a fee that could rise to £76.5 million was the only piece of business done on transfer deadline day at Old Trafford. There were no further signings to add to Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire and Daniel James. Reports of a move for Mario Mandzukic turned out to be wide of the mark. More on those stories here.

Tottenham Hotspur signed Giovani lo Celso from Real Betis, but the deal is only a season-long loan rather than a permanent transfer. Spurs will pay a loan fee of around €17 million (£15.5 million) according to reports from Spain. Tottenham also completed the signing of Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham for a fee of £25 million. But Paulo Dybala’s proposed £60 million transfer collapsed when Spurs refused to meet his wage demands.

Watford spent a club-record £25 million on the Rennes winger Ismaila Sarr.

Leicester City completed the £18 million signing of midfielder Dennis Praet from Sampdoria.

Manchester City signed Juventus full-back Joao Cancelo for £60 million. Danilo has moved in the opposite direction for a transfer fee of £34 million. City have also signed goalkeeper Scott Carson on loan from Derby County.

Newcastle United have re-signed striker Andy Carroll eight years after he left the club. The 30-year-old has signed a one-year deal. The Magpies also signed Swedish defender Emil Krafth from French side Amiens for a fee of about £5 million.

West Ham United have paid £8 million to FC Basel for the permanent transfer of striker Albian Ajeti.

Burnley have signed Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater on a season-long loan.

Sheffield United have signed midfielder Muhamed Besic from Everton on loan. Free agent goalkeeper Michael Verrips has also arrived.

Wolves have signed Bayern Munich midfielder Meritan Shabani on a three-year deal.

Brighton have signed midfielder Aaron Mooy on loan from Huddersfield Town. The Seagulls also completed the transfer of French right-back Romaric Yapi from PSG on a one-year deal. Beram Kayal has joined Charlton Athletic on a season-long loan.
