Tierney Deal At Risk Over Injury
Arsenal transfer target Kieran Tierney looks set to miss the next eight weeks through injury thus jeopardising the Gunners’ interest in him.
Tierney is expected to be the subject of a fresh bid from the Gunners that could see them pay as much as £25 million for the Scotland international. However, Celtic want more up-front than Arsenal are willing to pay – hence no deal at present.
Tierney missed the closing stages of last season after picking up an injury in the 3-0 win at Aberdeen on 4 May. But Celtic boss Neil Lennon says he isn’t close to making a return to the side.
“He’s still injured and he’s rehabbing,” Lennon said after the Hoops opened the new season with an emphatic 7-0 victory over St Johnstone on Saturday.
“He had a double hernia and he still has the Osteitis pubis problem so it’s a slow burner that one.”
Some outlets claim Tierney could miss anything between three weeks and eight weeks. The latter could jeopardise Arsenal’s interest.
Talks Set Over Coutinho
Meanwhile, Arsenal will have talks today with Barcelona over a move for midfielder Philippe Coutinho.
The Gunners are this year’s invited guests for the Joan Gamper Trophy match with Barcelona in the Nou Camp. It will be Arsenal’s first appearance in the traditional curtain-raiser to the Catalan side’s season.
Arsenal head of football Raul Sanllehi is likely to use the occasion to hold talks with Barca officials over a loan move for Coutinho. The Brazilian has fallen down the pecking order at Barcelona but is difficult to shift as the La Liga champions are demanding a fee close to the £105 million they paid Liverpool for him in January 2018.
Any loan fee for Coutinho is likely to be in the region of £27 million and with no payments by instalments on offer it’s difficult to see the Gunners doing any deal.
