Lazio Midfielder In Fresh United Link
Manchester United are being linked once again with the Lazio midfielder Sergey Milinkovic-Savic. The Serbia international was a United target for much of the 2017-18 season only for the Red Devils – and other suitors – to be deterred by Lazio’s insistence he would only go for a fee of over £100 million.
Milinkovic-Savic is being suggested as an alternative to Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes and Lazio president Claudio Lotito suggested this week that he may not be able to stop the 24-year-old from leaving this summer if the right offer comes along.
“Milinkovic has shown sincerity and responsibility, so that isn’t the case with him. He feels good here,” Lotito told Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport.
“Last year I managed to resist the assaults of other clubs, but this year I’d have fewer weapons if a different solution was proposed to the player.
“Let’s say that I used up some of my weapons last year.”
Meanwhile, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists his club won’t overpay for players. United are yet to make a bid for Fernandes following reports Sporting are looking for a transfer fee of £70 million.
“I’m sure you don’t believe every single player that we’ve been linked with, but I think that Manchester United sometimes have, because of the wealth, maybe we have had to pay more, a bigger premium to get players in, and that’s just the world we live in,” Solskjaer said.
“We’ve taken our time, we’re not going to overpay, but we have to get the right people in, the right players. “
