United Linked With Juventus Defender
Manchester United have opened talks over a move for an alternative to Harry Maguire in a bizarre transfer move.
United are refusing to meet Leicester City’s valuation for Maguire – said to be in the region of £70-80 million – and reports earlier this week of an imminent deal have proved to be wide of the mark.
But according to the Daily Express, United are already looking at an alternative to the England international. The paper claims the Red Devils are in talks over a move for Juventus defender Merih Demiral.
The 21-year-old Turkey international has had a bizarre six months. He moved from Sporting Lisbon to Alanyaspor in his homeland at the end of January only to move on loan to Serie A side Sassuolo the following day. Sassuolo made the deal permanent at the end of last season but then sold Demiral to Juventus earlier this month for a fee of €18 million (£16 million).
Demiral’s position at Juventus has already come under threat following the arrival of Matthijs de Ligt in a £67.5 million transfer from Ajax. AC Milan are interested and have made an enquiry. However, Juventus want to double their money and are demanding a €40 million (£36 million) transfer fee.
United In Matuidi Link
Manchester United are also being linked with a move for another Juventus player, Blaise Matuidi. That’s according to reports from France.
United and Everton are both keen on the former PSG man who is valued at around £20 million.
However, Matuidi’s age appears to rule out any United bid. He turned 32 in April and as United rarely make offers for players over the age of 30 any move to Old Trafford seems unlikely.
Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes’ agent Miguel Pinho has arrived in the UK for talks over his client’s future. United and Tottenham Hotspur are said to be interested.
