Manchester United will make a bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes before the transfer deadline in three weeks’ time. The Red Devils are still being linked with Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff. Centre-back Victor Lindelof has played down reports of a move to Barcelona saying he’s happy at United. Arsenal are likely to miss out on Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir with the France international seemingly bound for Spain. The Gunners are still in talks over a move for Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney. More on those stories here.

Tottenham Hotspur are willing to pay £54 million for Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale. However, they cannot afford his £600,000-a-week wages. Spurs defender Toby Alderweireld is a target for Serie A side Roma.

Steve Bruce is set to be named the new manager of Newcastle United. The Magpies will have to pay Bruce’s former club Sheffield Wednesday £4 million in compensation. Bruce will earn £1 million a year at St James’s Park with a bonus scheme payable on however many places above the drop zone the club finish. Former boss Rafa Benitez was on £6 million a year. Meanwhile, Newcastle could be ready to break their transfer record with a £36 million bid for Hoffenheim striker Joelinton.

Bayern Munich have given up hope of signing Leroy Sane from Manchester City in a deal that would be worth £100 million.

West Ham United are still in talks over a move for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Sebastian Haller.

Wolves are being linked with £5 million-rated Lazio defender Wallace.
