Maguire Due For Medical
Manchester United will sign Harry Maguire from Leicester City in a deal that could make the England international the world’s most expensive defender.
The Sun claims that Maguire will fly to Manchester today for a medical ahead of a move that will see United pay an initial £60 million. The Red Devils could also end up paying a further £20 million in add-ons and bonuses in a deal that would see Maguire’s fee surpass the £75 million Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk in January 2018.
Leicester will sign Lewis Dunk from Brighton and Hove Albion as Maguire’s replacement in a deal that will see the Foxes break their own transfer record with a £45 million fee.
United were strongly linked with Maguire last summer. However, Leicester’s £65 million valuation was more than the Red Devils were willing to pay.
Local rivals Manchester City were also interested in Maguire but refused to meet the initial £70 million asking price. But United returned with an improved offer that could see them exceed Leicester’s valuation and the deal looks set to be done.
Leicester paid £17 million for Maguire when they bought him from Hull City just two seasons ago.
