Everton Fee Puts Off Potential Suitors
Arsenal transfer target Everton Soares claims he has received an offer from a club but he won’t say who it is or where they are situated.
The 23-year-old Brazil international was watched by the Gunners at the recent Copa America which took place in his homeland. He scored in the final as his side defeated Peru 3-1. That was his third goal of the tournament and he ended as joint-top scorer alongside Paolo Guerrero of Peru.
“At this moment I have an offer, but I can’t say the name of the club,” Everton said at the weekend. “Just like I can’t promise that on Thursday I’ll still be playing for Gremio, we’ll see.” AC Milan and Atletico Madrid are also known to be interested.
Everton plays for Gremio in his homeland. He joined the side in 2012 from Fortaleza and came up through the Gremio youth ranks. He made his first-team debut in 2014 and has gone on to score 57 goals in 229 games for the side in all competitions.
Arsenal have been linked with a number of transfer targets but high fees appear to be an issue for the Gunners and they may find the same problem with Everton. Milan have taken a step back from any deal after being quoted a fee of €40 million (£35 million) plus bonuses.
Everton may insist he has a deal on the table, but certainly two of the clubs said to be interested in him – Arsenal and AC Milan – are holding back at present because of the size of the fee.
