Serie A Giants Want Pogba Back
Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba will be the subject of a £120 million bid from his former club Juventus according to reports today.
Pogba flew out with the rest of the United squad on Sunday for a series of pre-season friendlies in Australia and the Far East. It came after he was given extra time off by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and after his agent Mino Raiola insisted the Frenchman wants to leave Old Trafford.
Juventus and Real Madrid have both been linked with moves for Pogba and The Times claims the Serie A side will lodge a bid. However, United are expected to dig in their heels over the prospect of any exit for the 26-year-old. Pogba’s commercial value appears to be a greater consideration than his performances on the pitch although United are wary of the fact that finding a replacement will be difficult.
Meanwhile, there is better news of United goalkeeper David De Gea. He finally looks set to sign a new £350,000-a-week contract with the Red Devils ending a stand-off that has been going on for the past six months.
De Gea is in the final year of his current deal and United ran the risk of losing him for nothing next summer. He wanted an increase in his present pay package of £200,000 that would put him on a par with the club’s highest-paid player Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean’s basic pay is £400,000 a week with a further £70,000 a game in appearance money and up to £35,000 a week in bonuses.
Talks took place recently between the Manchester United hierarchy and De Gea’s agent Jorge Mendes that will see the Spanish keeper earn £350,000 a week and solve a potentially thorny problem next summer.
The news is likely to mean another loan spell for United keeper Dean Henderson. He will re-join Premier League newcomers Sheffield United having spent last season with the Blades.
