Deal For Full-Back Edges Closer
Manchester United have had talks with Crystal Palace over a move for the England Under-21 international full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
United have already had one bid rejected for the 21-year-old but look set to complete the signing for an initial fee of £42.5 million. Palace value Wan-Bissaka at around £60 million, but a series of add-ons and bonus payments will see the fee boosted to somewhere approaching that figure.
Talks between the two clubs took place on Friday.
United Struggling To Shift Sanchez
Meanwhile, Manchester United are struggling to find a buyer for midfielder Alexis Sanchez.
The Chile international has had a poor season with his 27 appearances yielding just one goal. But Sanchez’s wages of up to £500,000 a week mean he is out of reach for all but the richest clubs.
There has been talk of a move to the Chinese Super League but even the cash-rich clubs in the Far East are struggling to match a basic pay of £400,000 a week. Sanchez also receives £70,000 for every game he plays with other bonus payments worth up to £35,000 a week more.
Sanchez is currently on international duty at the Copa America. He got on the scoresheet against Ecuador on Friday and Chile coach Reinaldo Rueda suggested that the 30-year-old is being hampered by his situation at Old Trafford.
“Perhaps in Manchester he does not have the emotional bond he has with his team mates here, that affection,” said Rueda.
“Manchester United have had problems for a while, so he does not have the structure he has here.”
United are open to a loan deal for Sanchez although they may still end up paying a large chunk of his wages.
