Reds Transfer Target Could Be Sold
Liverpool have been told to pay at least £90 million if they are to have any chance of signing Barcelona midfielder Ousmane Dembele.
The France international could be on his way out of the Nou Camp this summer with Frenkie de Jong set to move to Barcelona and the Catalan side on the verge of signing Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid.
But Barca want to recoup some money from those big signings. Griezmann will cost around £100 million having already paid out some £75 million to Ajax for de Jong. Dembele could be sold to partially offset those outgoings.
According to TeamTalk, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was ready to let the summer pass without spending money on a big-name signing. But he is ready to make an exception if one of his favoured transfer targets comes on the market – and Dembele is one of those.
The 22-year-old is a controversial figure. He moved for an initial £90 million from Borussia Dortmund two summers ago having effectively gone on strike after hearing of Barca’s interest. A difficult first season was affected by a hamstring injury that kept him out of action for four months. But he played 42 games in all competitions last season scoring 14 goals and largely keeping former Red Phillippe Coutinho out of the Barca side.
