Arsenal have been told to pay €30 million (almost £27 million) for the Paris Saint-Germain full-back Thomas Meunier.

The Belgium international is surplus to requirements at PSG and has been linked with a move away from the club. Reports from France over the weekend suggested that Unai Emery has made his interest known to the PSG board. However, the French club have responded with a valuation of €30 million that looks set to be a problem for the Gunners.

Arsenal are labouring under a nett spend this summer of around £40-45 million. They are also interested in the Sampdoria duo of defender Joachim Andersen and winger Dennis Praet but are struggling to meet the Italian club’s valuation of £49 million. They are also interested in Praet and Meunier’s international team-mate Yannick Carrasco.

At present it seems the only way the Gunners will be able to do deals for all of those players is by selling.

There is also the problem of whether Meunier will accept a move to the Emirates. Speaking last week to Belgian TV station RTBF he suggested that he would prefer to remain with PSG.

“I will repeat myself again. My ambition is to stay in Paris,” he said.

“If they want me, that will be even better – we will be hand in hand. If they do not want me, then we will find a solution.”
