Pellegrini Release Fee Set At £27m
Arsenal are interested in Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini but are only willing to pay his transfer fee in instalments.
The 22-year-old has impressed in Serie A and has a release clause of €30 million(£27 million) in his contract with Roma. But while Arsenal are willing to pay the release fee they want to do so in two equal instalments. Release fees tend only to apply if the fee is paid in one lump sum.
Arsenal will face competition for Pellegrini from Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Inter Milan. Roma want Pellegrini to sign a new contract that would remove the release clause. He would also be made the club’s vice-captain if he puts pen to paper.
Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claims both Arsenal and Tottenham have made contact with Pellegrini’s agent.
Pellegrini came up through Roma’s academy system. He spent two seasons with Sassuolo between 2015 and 2017 before Roma exercised a €10 million buyback clause in the transfer deal. He made just one Serie A appearance in his first spell at the club. However, since his return he has played in 53 league games over two seasons along with 17 appearances in various cup competitions.
