Manchester United are ready to make a bid to bring in Gareth Bale on loan.

The Wales international is surplus to requirements at Real Madrid having been told by coach Zinedine Zidane that he can leave the club if he wishes. But Bale’s £600,000-a-week wages and Real’s asking price of anywhere between £50 million and £100 million.

According to the Sunday Mirror, United are ready to do a season-long loan deal for Bale with the option of extending the transfer by a further year. It’s an attractive proposition to Real as it would take around £60 million off their wage bill over the next two years. For United the deal is would sidestep club policy on the permanent signing of players over the age of 30. Bale reaches that milestone in July – just before the start of the new season.

However, it will see Bale become the highest-paid player at the club after a season in which he has failed to impress at the Bernabeu. This was the season where he should have succeeded Cristiano Ronaldo. But the 14 goals he scored in 42 games in all competitions was well short of the mark expected of him.

Bale insists he will see out his contract at Real Madrid. But a move to Manchester United could be tempting to him. Sir Alex Ferguson offered £100 million for Bale in 2013 but he had his heart set on a move to the Bernabeu.

Benfica President Resigned To Felix Exit

Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira claims his club will only be able to keep hold of 19-year-old forward Joao Felix if they do a sale and loan-back deal.

Both United and local rivals Manchester City are being linked with a deal that would see them pay Felix’s £105 million release fee – something that looks likely after his performances this season.

“It is Joao Felix and his family who will decide if he stays,” Vieira said.

“If someone bids 120million euros it is not worth dreaming that he will stay.

“We are trying everything to ensure he stays. But the only way is if we sell him and keep him another year.

“If not, Joao leaves. There is no room to negotiate further. He doesn’t want to.”

New Deals Expected For Duo

Two Manchester United players look set to sign new deals with the club.

Striker Jesse Lingard will sign an extension to his contract which has two years left to run. The new deal will see his pay increase to £130,000 a week.

Midfielder Andreas Pereira also looks set to sign a new contract. The club triggered a one-year extension in March that will see his present deal run to 2020. That will be extended to 2023.
