Striker Was Voted Plater Of The Year
Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette says he is ‘flattered’ by reports linking him with interest from Barcelona. Reports from Spain claim he could be a target for the La Liga champions if they fail to sign Antoine Griezmann fromn Atletico Madrid.
The France international was announced last week as the Gunners’ Player Of The Season despite achieving his lowest goalscoring return since the 2012-13 campaign.
He was interviewed on Sunday by the French TV programme Telefoot. When asked about the Barcelona connection he replied: “I’m flattered”.
But Lacazette has struck up an effective partnership this season with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the Gunners finished in fifth place in the Premier League at the end of Unai Emery’s first season in charge at the Emirates. The side have also reached the final of the Europa League. Victory over Chelsea in Baku later this month will see Arsenal return to the Champions League after three seasons away from Europe’s top table.
Meanwhile, Aubameyang’s double in the final-day victory over Burnley means he has clinched a share in the Premier League’s Golden Boot Award. The Gabon international ended the season on 22 goals – the same as the Liverpool pair of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane. He becomes the first Arsenal player to win the award since Robin van Persie in 2012.
