Gunners Eye Up Ivory Coast Defender
Arsenal could be offered the chance to sign Manchester United defender Eric Bailly this summer.
The Ivory Coast international looks set to leave Old Trafford after falling out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Bailly has played in just 12 Premier League games for the Red Devils this season, only eight of which have been as a starter.
According to Metro newspaper, United are willing to sell Bailly to Arsenal. The club normally have a reluctance to sell to a side near the top end of the Premier League table. However, the paper believes a deal could take place.
United are likely to demand from Arsenal the £30million they paid Villareal for Bailly in 2016. That could prove to be a problem as the Gunners are looking at a transfer budget of £40million over the whole of the forthcoming transfer window.
But victory over Chelsea in the final of the Europa League later this month will give Arsenal a cash boost. The north London side are looking unlikely to qualify for the Champions League via a top four spot in the Premier League following a dismal run of recent form. But they could be taking part in Europe’s elite competition if they win the Europa League. That could be worth as much as £60million to Arsenal much of which will be handed manager Unai Emery in the transfer market.
