Gunners Linked With Manchester United Centre-Back
Arsenal are interested in signing the Manchester United defender Eric Bailly.
The Gunners have been monitoring Bailly’s situation for much of this year as the Ivory Coast international has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
Bailly is expected to leave United this summer although any exit would be dependent on the Red Devils first finding a replacement. United have been linked with Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Leciester City’s Harry Maguire.
The 25-year-old former Villareal player hasn’t featured for United since he limped off in the first half of the 3-1 Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain in France on 6 March.
Arsenal boss Unai Emery is hoping to revamp his back four this summer. But the Gunners could be working on a reduced budget of £40-45million in the transfer market if they fail to qualify for the Champions League. United aren’t expected to offer a discount to a side they see as rivals at the top end of the Premier League meaning the transfer fee for Bailly would be somewhere in the region on £25-30million.
Emery knows Bailly well having seen him in action for Villareal when the Arsenal boss was in charge of Sevilla.
The Gunners are expected to offer Shkodran Mustafi for sale this summer – the second year on the trot they have tried to offload the Germany international. But they may struggle to find takers for a player who still has a book value of £14million and earns £90,000 a week in wages.
