Solskjaer Set To Wield The Axe
Manchester United are prepared to sell Romelu Lukaku this summer as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer begins to rebuild his United squad.
The Belgium international has failed to shine since his £75million move from Everton in 2019. However, his Premier League record of 12 goals in 29 appearances this season is better than in the 2017-18 campaign coming at an average of one for every 161 minutes on the pitch. That’s compares with the 178 minutes he took him to score his 16 goals in 34 games last season.
But his agent Federico Pastorello suggested earlier this month that Lukaku is “someone who loves to know a different culture, a different football” and reports today claim United are prepared to listen to offers.
Lukaku has a book value of £45million – a valuation that may be difficult to realise.
The 25-year-old is being linked with a move to Italy. Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is an admirer of L ukaku and tried to sign the striker when he looked set to leave Everton. However, Lukaku decided to link up once again with Jose Mourinho who was his manager at Chelsea while he was at the club. Conte looks set to return to Serie A next season with a move to either Inter Milan or Juventus being touted.
Lukaku hasn’t scored in any of his last six appearances for Manchester United. His last goal came in the Champions League Round of 16 second-leg tie at Paris Saint-Germain. He was on a streak of six goals in three games but he hasn’t found the net since.
