Manchester United ‘To Be Offered Coutinho’ For Rashford

Coutinho In Rashford Exchange

Marcus Rashford Manchester United

Barcelona will offer midfielder Phillippe Coutinho to Manchester United in part-exchange for Marcus Rashford.

A report in the Catalan daily Mundo Deportivo claims the former Liverpool player would be offered to United should they decide to part with Rashford. The 21-year-old is under contract at Old Trafford until 2021 but the Red Devils are trying to tie him down with a new deal.

But there are conflicting reports regarding the status of the talks. It was recently claimed that United are willing to pay Rashford £350,000 a week as they seek to persuade him to sign a five-year deal. However, the Daily Mail claims that talks have stalled over Rashford’s demands which it puts at £200,000 a week. The paper adds that the England international is also looking for assurances over his role in the side. Rashford has leapt ahead of Romelu Lukaku in the United pecking order and his representatives would like to keep it that way.

Mundo Deportivo claims Brazilian winger Malcom could also be offered by B\arcelona. He was linked with a number of Premier League clubs last summer with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur particularly keen. But his work permit situation could be a problem thanks to few caps at senior level for Brazil.

United Set For ‘ £250m Transfer Spend

Meanwhile, there is the inevitable speculation about the Manchester United transfer spend this summer following the side’s elimination from the Champions League at Barcelona on Tuesday night.

United were swept aside 3-0 by the Catalan side to lose 4-0 on aggregate and the gap between the two sides was all too apparent.

As ever, figures are being pulled out of thin air. The Daily Mirror believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have a budget of £250million to play with.

The paper claims he has told the Manchester United hierarchy he needs four big signings to revitalise his squad. Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi, Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt are all at the top of United’s wish-list. None of those four will be particularly easy to sign. Dortmund will want to hang on to Sancho for at least one more season. Chelsea are more likely to sell Hudson-Odoi to Bayern Munich rather than to one of their Premier League tivals. Reports have also claimed that United are more interested in PSG’s Thomas Meunier than Wan-Bissaka and United are behind Barcelona in the race for de Ligt.

Whether any of those players would want to come to Old Trafford if United miss out on the Champions League is one for the summer.

The Mirror adds that Antonio Valencia, Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Alexis Sanchez will all leave Old Trafford. The latter will be particularly difficult to shift given he earns a basic pay of £400,000 a week.
