Former Villa Man In Arsenal Sights
Arsenal officials have had talks with Fiorentina midfielder Jordan Veretout over a summer move to the Emirates.
Reports from Italy on Wednesday claimed that Veretout’s agent Mario Giuffredi has already had talks with the Gunners over a potential move.
But as ever, Arsenal will face competition for Veretout’s signature. Some outlets are claiming that Napoli are in pole position for the Dutchman’s signature. AC Milan are also keen.
Veretout, 26, has previous experience of the Premier League. He spent a year at Aston Villa in their relegation campaign of 2015-16 before being shipped out on loan to St Etienne. The following year he was sold to Fiorentina with Villa getting back the €7million they paid to Nantes.
The Daily Mirror claims Arsenal are in pole position for Lille winger Nicolas Pepe. The Ivory Coast international is being linked with a move to the Emirates this summer although the Gunners will face stiff competition from Bayern Munich who wanted to sign Pepe in the January transfer window.
Chelsea are now being linked with Pepe as a replacement for Eden Hazard. However, the Blues face a transfer embargo that could end their hopes this summer.
Arsenal have a much-quoted £40million transfer budget. However, Pepe alone will cost somewhere in the region of £50million.
