Roma Could Also Be Keen
Arsenal are favourites to sign the Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti. The France World Cup-winner is being tipped to leave the Nou Camp this summer having fallen down the club’s pecking order.
Reports from Italy claim Roma will challenge the Gunners for Umtiti. The Serie A side face the prospect of losing Kostas Manolas to Manchester United if the Red Devils pay his €36million (£31million) release clause. Roma will then put in a bid for Umtiti. United are also being linked.
But the Italian website Tuttomercatoweb believes Arsenal are in pole position to sign Umtiti. Much depends on whether the Gunners can reach the Champions League next season. A top-four finish will mean a cash windfall otherwise the side will be restricted to a transfer budget of €40-45million.
Suarez In Napoli Link
Arsenal midfielder Denis Suarez could be set for a move to Serie A side Napoli this summer. That’s according to his agent.
Suarez has made just four substitute appearances totalling 67 minutes since he arrived on loan from Barcelona at the end of January and the chances of Arsenal triggering the option to make the deal permanent looks remote.
But speaking to the Naples radio station Kiss Kiss his agent Felix Guende hinted at a possible move to Italy.
“He has two years left at Barcelona. This year in England hasn’t been his best. He’s played little and hasn’t been able to find a rhythm. At the moment, he’s injured. He has muscle fatigue and an injury. We’re awaiting the results from the exams.”
Reports from Italy claim Napoli are interested and Guende refused to rule out that option.
“Napoli? The interest is always appreciated, being a team that has been fighting for the top positions for years,” Guende added.
“It’s a bit soon to talk about the transfer window, but we aren’t excluding anything.”
