Renewed Interest Expected From Catalans
Barcelona are mulling over a fresh bid for Chelsea winger Willian.
The Brazil international was a target for Barca last summer when they put in a £55million. That was rejected by Chelsea and they are likely to do the same again this time around.
Chelsea’s situation is complicated by the Blues’ transfer ban. They have been prevented from making signings over the next two windows after being found guilty of illegally signing under-age players in contravention of Fifa’s policies on child trafficking. That means the Blues would be unable to sign any replacement for Willian should he be sold.
Willian has just one year left on his current deal and would be able to leave on a free transfer if he sees out his current deal. The way round that would be for Chelsea to offer him a new contract. Club policy is to offer just a one-year deal for a player over the age of 30 and that is likely to apply this time around.
The Blues also face the departure of Eden Hazard for Real Madrid this summer. Young forward Callum Hudson-Odoi is also likely to be the subject of renewed interest from Bayern Munich following three failed bids in January.
