Reds One Of A Number Of Clubs Keen
Liverpool are being linked with interest in Ajax’s Brazilian striker David Neres.
The 22-year-old hit the headlines on Wednesday night when he scored the equaliser early in the second half of his side’s 1-1 draw with Juventus in the Champions League.
But Neres’s scoring record this season has been mediocre at best. He has hit eight goals in 26 Eredivisie games for Ajax at an average of one for every 211 minutes on the pitch.
The feeling is that Neres is not yet the finished article and a number of top clubs are circling over a player valued at £40million.
Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton are also being linked. Borussia Dortmund could make a move if they lose Jadon Sancho – something that looks unlikely this summer. Paris Saint-Germain have also watched Neres in action.
The Reds have yet to make an official offer for Neres and manager Jurgen Klopp has already insisted that his side won’t make any big-money signings this summer.
Work-permit problems could also be an issue unless Neres can land an EU passport although with the size of the transfer fee being quoted he could be fast-tracked to a Premier League club.
