Hazard Set To Stay In Germany
Liverpool have missed out on the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Thorgan Hazard with the Belgian set to move to Borussia Dortmund.
Hazard – the brother of Chelsea forward Eden Hazard – moved to Monchengladbach following an unsuccessful stint at Stamford Bridge. While at Chelsea he spent two seasons on loan at Zulte Waregem and one at Monchengladbach before securing a permanent switch to the Bundesliga side in 2015.
This season Hazard has scored 12 goals and provided 11 assists and has been linked with a summer transfer. But he looks set to join Borussia Dortmund who are looking for a replacement for the Chelsea-bound United States international Christian Pulisic.
Dortmund will pay €40million – the quivalent of around £35million – for Hazard. Liverpool’s bid was believed to have been higher but Hazard has chosen to move to Dortmund as he believes he will get more first-team opportunities there than he will at Anfield.
As things stand, Hazard will be out of contract at Monchengladbach next summer. He has scored 45 goals in 171 games for ‘Die Folen’ and was part of the Belgium squad that finished third at the World Cup last summer.
