Monchi Returns To Sevilla
Arsenal could turn to former player Marc Overmars as their search continues for a director of football.
The Gunners are ready to make the appointment for the first time in a major restructure of the club’s recruitment policy. The decision is believed to have led to the departure of Sven Mislintat who was told he wouldn’t be getting the job.
But Arsenal have received a blow with the news that their first choice for the job, Monchi, has decided to return to Sevilla.
The 50-year-old spent his entire playing career with the La Liga side and was appointed as their sporting director in 2000 after hanging up his boots. He left for Roma in 2017 but was sacked earlier this month after a spend of over €100million last summer failed to see club progress either in Serie A or in Europe.
Monchi’s return to Sevilla comes after coach Pablo Martin was sacked and current director of football Joaquin Caparros was placed in charge of the team.
Overmars is currently director of football at Ajax.
