First Player To Pass 125 Uefa Club Goals
Cristiano Ronaldo hailed his own performance for Juventus last night as the Serie A side headed into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Ronaldo scored a hat-trick as Juve overcame a 2-0 first leg deficit to beat Atletico Madrid 3-0 on the night to go through 3-2 on aggregate.
The Portugal international was signed by Juve for £100million last summer and a serious tilt at the Champions League was part of the reason that he moved to the club.
“This was why Juventus brought me here, to help do things that they have never done before,” said Ronaldo.
The 34-year-old became the first player to score 125 goals in Uefa club competitions and has scored 18 goals in his last 14 Champions League knockout games.
“It was always going to be a special night and it was – not only for the goals but for the team,” he added.
“This is the mentality you need to win in the Champions League. We enjoyed a magical night. Atletico were a difficult team but we were strong too. We will see what will happen.”
Juventus are looking to lift Europe’s top trophy for the first time since 1996.
