Dutchman Sees Inspiration From Van Dijk
Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt has spoken of the possibility of a move to Liverpool.
De Ligt was one of the stars of the Dutch side’s 4-1 win at Real Madrid on Tuesday night, a result that puts them in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
But speaking in an interview with Goal.com, de Ligt admits he would like to follow the example of his Netherlands international team-mate Virgil van Dijk.
“Virgil is a player who has experience in the top leagues,” said de Ligt.
“Of course, you would want to learn from him. It’s very helpful playing alongside him in the Dutch team.”
But he was a little more guarded when asked about a move to Anfield.
“It could happen. He plays for Liverpool, a good club, but I’m not focused on them. I focus on Ajax and then I’ll see where I end up.”
Meanwhile, Virgil van Dijk could be offered a new contract by Liverpool. The 27-year-old has attracted the attentions of Barcelona and Real Madrid and the Reds are considering a new deal worth £200,000 a week to keep him at Anfield.
