Neymar Bid This Summer?
Real Madrid are preparing a world-record €350million offer for Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar according to reports from Spain.
Sport newspaper – admittedly a Barcelona-based publication – claims Real have been in touch with the Brazilian over a potential move.
Neymar has been linked with a return to Spain after leaving Barcelona for PSG in a €222million move in 2017. Rumours began to circulate last summer over a possible move to the Bernabeu. But there was never any prospect of a transfer at that time. The smart money was on a move in 2019.
PSG won’t be keen on the sale of Neymar who has three more years left on his contract at the French club. They also have a reputation of only selling players when it suits them. But with Uefa’s Financial Fair Play team still on their case and an amortised profit of over €200million to be made it could be the proverbial offer that they can’t refuse.
For the player himself it will mark a return to football at the highest level. The side are 17 points clear at the top of Ligue 1 but for the second consecutive season they have been knocked out of the Champions League at the Round of 16 stage.
For Real Madrid it will be third time lucky. They tried to sign Neymar in 2011 when he was with Santos and in 2013 when he decided instead to join Barcelona.
But club captain Sergio Ramos pointed out to president Florentino Perez after Real’s shock Champions League exit to Ajax this week that they haven’t adequately replaced Cristiano Ronaldo who left for Juventus last summer.
Real will offer Neymar €45million a year making him the highest-paid player in the world.
