Striker Valued At £35m
Liverpool are the latest club to be linked with a move for Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez.
The Uruguay international has hit nine goals in 23 La Liga games for Celta so far this season. That followed 17 goals in 36 games last season.
The Sun claims today that Gomez has been recommended to the Reds by former striker Luis Suarez although the notion that Suarez rings up Jurgen Klopp to recommend players to him sounds far-fetched.
However, Suarez’s current club Barcelona are also believed to be interested. As Football Gossip reported just before Christmas Gomez is one of seven players under consideration by Barca as a replacement for Suarez himself.
Gomez is just 21 and Celta are believed to have slapped a £35million price tag on the youngster.
Chelsea are also interested while West Ham United targeted the striker in the January transfer window as a replacement for Marko Arnautovic who looked set to move to China. But Celta held firm and refused to entertain a move for their star player. That led to Arnautovic’s hopes of a big-money pay-day in the Far East being scuppered.
The Hammers are still hopeful of reviving their interest in the summer.
