Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is still open to a move away from the club this summer according to reports from Italy.

Tuttosport claims Pogba could be on his way out of Old Trafford at the end of the season if the club fail to qualify for the Champions League. At the moment, though, United look nailed on for a top-four spot with nine wins and two draws in the Premier League since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho on an interim basis in December.

But according to Tuttosport, Pogba is still interested in a move back to Juventus. He first moved to the Serie A side in 2012 when his contract with United expired. He had a successful four years in Turn winning the Serie A title in each season with the club along with two Coppa Italia titles and an appearance in the Champions League Final defeat to Barcelona in 2015.

But the chances of Pogba being allowed to leave Manchester United are fairly slim. The Red Devils won’t be interested in a departure for their club-record signing of £89million.

Juventus would have to pay at least £100million and having done that last year to sign Cristiano Ronaldo they are unlikely to be in a position to do the same again. Juve have already snapped Aaron Ramsey on a free transfer from Arsenal for next season on wages of £400,000 a week. That has led to an exit for Gonzalo Higuain whose £300,000-a-week wages were too high to keep alongside Ronaldo’s. Pogba already earns around £290,000 a week at Old Trafford.

Any move to Juventus will only even be contemplated by the Serie A side if they move on another of their big-name stars.

What looks more likely is that Pogba will be appointed Manchester United captain next season. Current skipper Antonio Valencia is out of contract this summer after the club decided against triggering a one-year extension to his current deal. He is now almost certain to leave and Pogba is being tipped to succeed him.

Ashley Young currently deputises for Valencia during his absences and the 33-year-old recently signed a one-year extension. But reports today claim Pogba will be appointed skipper permanently this summer.
