Monreal One Of Three Players Under Consideration
Arsenal full-back Nacho Monreal is a transfer target Barcelona.
The 33-year-old is out of contract at the Emirates this summer and looks set to leave the club after six seasons with the Gunners. There have been rumours that the club would exercise an option to extend that deal to 2020 although that hasn’t been confirmed officially.
But according to the Catalan newspaper Sport, Monreal is one of three experienced full-backs being eyed up by Barca.
Current Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba is in the process of finalising a new deal that could keep him at Barcelona until 2024. However, the La Liga giants are also looking to bring in an experienced left-back as understudy to Alba. Monreal is one of three candidates. Liverpool’s Alberto Moreno and Filipe Luis of Atletico Madrid are also under consideration.
Sport claims Barcelona have been ‘in contact’ with some of the candidates although it doesn’t say with whom. Monreal is currently free to speak to overseas clubs about a pre-contract agreement.
The idea is that Barca will offer a contract of two years’ maximum duration while bringing on one of their youngsters as Alba’s eventual replacement.
