Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku wants to join Juventus if he is sold this summer.

The report comes from The Sun which claims Lukaku would be willing to move to the Serie A giants. The paper offers no source for its story.

Lukaku has come under criticism from Manchester United fans although that criticism has dogged him throughout his time at Old Trafford. He has fallen down the pecking order for his favoured position as a striker since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrived at the club as interim manager and has been forced to play out of position.

The Belgium international got on the score-sheet with two goals in Wednesday night’s 3-1 win at Crystal Palace. The goals brought his total for the season to 11 but they were his first since early January.

Whether Juventus would be willing to accommodate Lukaku would be another matter entirely. The Serie A side are already feeling the squeeze thanks to Uefa’s Financial Fair Play rules although the squeeze applies to wages rather than transfer fees. Cristiano Ronaldo’s €28million a year salary has been loaded on to the books this season. The side have also agreed to pay Aaron Ramsey a whopping £400,000 a week when he moves to Juve on 1 July.

Gonzalo Higuain has been sent out on loan and has already been told there is no way back for him and his £300,000-a-week wages. Lukaku isn’t quite in that league but Juventus may have to sell first if they decide to buy him.
